The first turtle thingie is a crochet potholder. I think the turtle looks a lot like the comic turtle on the postcard.
The turtle thingies below are soap holders. These seem to have been a popular thing to crochet. One of them has a little vintage gift card attached to it. There is a handwritten verse inside the card:
When you bathe
In Shower or tub,
Use this Turtle
When you rub.
Then, to keep your soap
Nice & Dry
Hang it by the tail
So High.
In Shower or tub,
Use this Turtle
When you rub.
Then, to keep your soap
Nice & Dry
Hang it by the tail
So High.
These are so cute. I would not want to use them. I enjoyed your post very much. Anything hand made is so much more treasured.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen these before! So I have to ask a question: Are they small pouches to put a bar of soap in? Or do you put the soap on top of them in the bath, so the bar doesn't slip off the edge of the tub? Either one sounds useful to me.
ReplyDeleteAll of these turtle thingies are so cute! I love the poem w/ the soapers.
ReplyDelete@viridian: they are pouches for the soap to go in.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find your homemade treasures? They are adorable - I, too, have never seen anything like them before!
ReplyDeleteThe turtle soap holders are cute, and look like a lot of handwork was
ReplyDeleteput into the making of them. Great postcard!
Darling! Think the soap holders were handmade? I often wonder if I am getting "duped" when I buy croquet, because I don't know enough about them, other than I like them!
ReplyDeletethey are simply adorable..love the poem too :)
ReplyDeleteThat poem is cute and so are the turtles. I collect postcards so I'm glad to find your blog thanks to VTT.
ReplyDeleteThe post card is so sweet. Don't you just love the innocence that once was?
ReplyDeleteLove this idea for little ones, soap can be so slippery...Never seen it before..Very clever idea.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you often combine a postcard and an item shown in it. The crocheted potholder looks really nice and usable.
ReplyDeleteThat postcard is so cute and made me laugh. I love turtles. We live on a lake and they are always coming into our yard to lay their eggs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Living it up at Lakewood,

Oh, I DO remember soap holders like those - - - kinda like automatic soap in a washcloth.
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute...and you are right, those turtles look just alike. I would not want to use any of those things....they are too cute!! Have a great VTT and a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteLove the potholder & what cute postcard!
ReplyDeleteThey're adorable! I love the little card too! I used to not be such a big fan of crochet until I started seeing your collection :)
ReplyDeleteLove the postcard and soapers. Turtles seem to go in and out of fashion, don't they?
ReplyDeleteI'll check out the website of woodland creatures, what beautiful illustrations!
Thanks postcardy! :)
I love all the turtles! Wish I could crochet so I could make some soap holders!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my post. Everyone is crazy about my Barbie thermos. I might need to hide it ;)
I've seen fish soap holder's but never turtles! That's a cute postcard too! Enjoy the postcards you show!
ReplyDeleteA ladies' dress store used to sell these--always were beside their cash register. Not sure why I never bought one as I thought they were so cute. They were sold with a bar of Sweetheart soap in them which was ivory in color, mild and oval in shape. Haven't seen these turtles in 40 years !...and the soap has gone also .
