Mexico 1968 Olympics

The 1968 Summer Olympics were held in Mexico City. The caption on this postcard is Aztec Post Racer.

The graphics on this postcard are not the official ones. The official logo and graphics were more modern in style. The logo had elements of both traditional Mexican art and 1960s op-art. See Olympic Games Design from 1968 Mexico City for examples of the official graphics and their use.

  1. It was interesting to see the postcard from the 1968 Mexico games and the video. I was too young to remember it.

Have you checked into copyright issues with the Olympic logo? I wanted to include several past logos on my blog, but when I found them at Wikipedia, their policy states all logos with the Olympic rings are copyrighted by the IOC. Made me a bit apprehensive to use them.

I do like the modern lines of the Mexico logo - it certainly fit in with the sixties.

  2. I think this is fair use. On the other hand, I think the reason the postcard does not use the official logo is because it was not officially licensed.

  3. Thanks for answering my question about the copyright concerns. Guess it does qualify as fair use. Even if the postcard wasn't officially licensed, they had a creative way of incorporating the rings into the picture.
