I was attracted to this postcard by the the unusual pose, and how the subjects all looked like they were having fun hugging each other and posing for the camera. There is no information on the back, so I have no idea about the who or where. I think that they probably were all members of the same family. The two girls on the left look a lot like each other and the woman (mother?) behind them.
It looks like the subjects gave a good deal of thought about where to place their arms and hands, which resulted in their being linked forever in this photo.

And everyone is smiling. I wonder if daughter #3 was supposed to be looking forward like the other two, making this photo one happy mistake. I hope there was a dad who cherished this photo of his girls with their mother.

ReplyDeleteA stunning photo! My first impression were of a theatrical family and then a school teacher and her students, but mother and girls seems right. They are so similar could they be triplets?
ReplyDeleteLooking at that photo you simply cannot, not smile! Absolutely lovely. And that they're smiling! Generally in older photos, no one smiled because of the time it took to take the picture. This photo must have been taken with a newer-type camera & hooray for that, else it would never have been so captivating.

ReplyDeleteThat is such a wonderful photograph to match this week's theme. You cannot help but smile at their happiness. It make such a contrast to the stilted formal images we see in this period. If we only knew who they were!

ReplyDeleteI like the way the photographer posed the group...for I'm pretty sure it was his expertise that had those children's arms all entwined that way. And they probably were about to start pinching each other (like sisters do) or making faces, so he got the arms right, then the on on the right with her head tilted so far back to look at Mum, and finally a command to smile! (They probably hadn't thought of saying cheese yet!) Great image!

ReplyDeleteFor all that they are formally dressed it is such a lovely intimate photo and the symbolic linking of arms seems to reflect real affection.
