I decided to post this Bamforth comic postcard that reflects the themes Alan saw when he viewed the photograph from a male point of view: "sleepless nights, smelly nappies, and endless worry and expense!"

I’m so glad you took this interpretation. I love these comic postcards. As a child I was fascinated by some of the more ‘saucy’ ones.

I wonder if anyone purchased these cards as birth announcements. Certainly more fun than a cigar!
This funny postcard brings to memory when my first daughter was born. The nurse was calling my husband on the phone and said:"es ist so weit" meaning I was ready to give birth; he understood she said "zwei" two! Panting he came running and asked where are the twins! That happened in Zurich SWL and it was spoken in high German as the nurse was from Germany.

Very funny, and yet another pair of twins for Sepia Saturday! In today's hospitals, I don't think any father would be "surprised" by a nurse in this way. Modern obstetrics like modern meteorology, no longer has any mystery.
