The Legend of Sleepy Holllow
This is a Colorano Silk Maximum Card with the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" stamp that was issued on October 10, 1974. The stamp features a scene from Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" in which the infamous Headless Horseman pursues Ichabod Crane. The story was first published in 1820. Wikipedia has a summary here.
A suitably spooky stamp, I like the designer's striking and minimal use of colour. I still haven't got over the nightmare of Christopher Walken playing the headless horseman in Tim Burton's film.
Autumn colours + Halloween... I love your choice!

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that the current tv version of Sleepy Hollow is critically acclaimed, but I rather enjoy watching it.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite horror stories and a superb stamp.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great stamp, I have that one but not on a cover.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the minority, it seems, because I don't know the story. But the stamp is great - very atmospheric.
