This postcard shows an early twentieth century view of a portion of the Minnesota State Fair Grounds. The Minnesota State Fair is located midway between Minneapolis and St. Paul. It has been held at its present location since 1885. The 2010 dates of the Minnesota State Fair are August 26 to Labor Day.
The building shown in the background is the old Livestock Pavillion that was completed in 1906. This building was replaced by a new Coliseum in 1951.

What a great collection. I especially like the card of the streetcar terminal. It gives you an idea of how people got there. This card is interesting for its partial coloring. I like it.
ReplyDeleteI love all the Fair postcards... You have... I checked out the video posted and that is a hoot... Wow a whole book on Minnesota State Fair Postcards. Great post

Yes, fairs are wonderful. This one was a big fair. In the Netherlands there are no state fairs, and for a long period in the 19th century fairs were even forbidden in Amsterdam. They were deemed as too sinful.
ReplyDeleteThat looks an enormous building for livestock!
ReplyDeleteGreat postcard! I'm so glad that a visit to the fair these days doesn't require dresses, hats and gloves.
ReplyDeleteThe building stands out because it alone has been 'colorized'. Great card!
ReplyDeleteSee, not everything is B & W! Not even some B & W postcards. :)
ReplyDeleteThe fair is probably going on right now! Hope everyone is having a great time.
ReplyDeleteClassic Americana!

In regards to my postcard you has asked me what the specific challenge had been...It was 'Once Upon a Time', the book page is from the childrens book, The House with a Clock in its Walls by John Bellairs.
