This maximum card is from the Soviet Union and has a first day cancellation dated 08-05-1984. The theme is peace. Below is an enlargement of the stamps and cancellation.
I was able to translate the words in the Google translator, though some of them are a bit ambiguous. Here is what I came up with.
top left:
ПОЛИТИКА СССР - ПОЛИТИКА МИРА
Policy of Soviet Union - Policy of peace
left globe:
ЗА ПОЛНОЕ ЗАПРЕЩЕНИЕ ОРУЖИЯ МАССОВОГО УНИЧТОЖЕНИЯ
A total ban on weapons of mass destruction
center:
СОВЕТСКИЙ
СОЮЗ, СЛЕДУЯ ЛЕНИНСКОЙ ПОЛИТИКЕ МИРА И МЕЖДУНА РОДНОГО СОТРУДНИЧЕСТВА;
СДЕЛАЕТ ВСЕ ОТ НЕГО ЗА ВИСЯЩЕЕ ДЛЯ ПРЕДОТВРАЩЕНИЯ ВОЙНЫ
Soviet Union, Following Lenin's policy of peace and international cooperation, did all it could for hanging on to prevent war
top right:
ЗАЩИТА МИРА - ДЕЛО ВСЕХ И КАЖДОГО
Protecting
peace - Everyone
and all
right globe:
МИРНЫМ ИНИЦИАТИВАМ СССР - ШИРОКУЮ ПОДДЕРЖКУ!
Peace
initiatives of the Soviet Union - wide
support!

Nice maxi card. You've done a great job of translating it all. The Russians seem fond of putting a wordy message stamp in a set.
ReplyDeleteGreat card and a stamps. Takes me back to the "bad" old days. Thank you for joining in!
ReplyDeleteThis is a gem! Thanks also for providing the translation for Cyrillic characters.
ReplyDeleteGreat maxicard. Very wordy stamps :)
ReplyDeleteIt is also Мир in Macedonian :) I just think, I am not really sure, that regarding "ЗАЩИТА МИРА - ДЕЛО ВСЕХ И КАЖДОГО", it would be more "Protecting peace - the duty/deed/business of all and everyone"
ReplyDeleteI'm taking a beginners course in Russian this coming autumn but I think this sort of translation will be a long time beyond me. Great stamps.
ReplyDeleteI use a website that lets you type with different language keyboards, so you really only have to be somewhat familiar with the alphabet. After you do the typing, you can copy the words and paste them in the Google translator.
DeleteGood work on the translation. Great card/stamps.
ReplyDeleteGood for you in managing some translation!
ReplyDeleteHere in the Philippines, Peace in Tagalog is "Kapayapaan" :)
